Deep Dive Mind Map - I want to take my reactive dog for a walk

The Beastly Behaviour Club - RtoR including Rover Recovery - Description

At Beastly Thoughts Professional Dog Services we have been working with some of you and your reactive dogs over an extended time, some less so and a few owners and their dogs are very new to us. But this membership is equally relevant to all.

For the purpose of this presentation I will clarify that the “US” is in terms of expertise myself (Karen Boyce) and Instructor Demi Powell. Support will also come from Micheal Powell and Frances Boyce.  And, of course, on administration is Janet Robbins.

The purpose of our membership, as with any good membership, is to make you and your dogs’ lives better.

Our membership is designed to assist you and your dog  in terms of increased knowledge and support, plus to have an additional unique aspect of ensuring your dog is kept safe.

RtoR - The Philosophy - Please Read

Dogs just want to feel safe; just like humans do.

When walking around our dogs often don't feel this way.

We equate this to a non-swimmer in a waterpark trying to survive amongst the shallow pools, deep ends and waves and water flumes.

Our dogs we term as being "emotional non-swimmers".

Our dogs whole world is a waterpark!

And it's worse because our dogs generally find themselves attached to swimmers! You!

That attachment is either physically via a piece of rope (lead) or mentally via the desire for dogs to keep close to their owners.

Out job as trainers to is to help our dogs ebb and flows around the waterpark that is their lives.

Pain

Pain in dogs is something that is hard to rule out and is the cause of 90% of behavioural issues; from gut pain to joint pain. There are many different types and as behaviourists it's our duty to spot it and ask you as dog owners to investigate it, as it could be the difference between how much time you spend training and the issue resolving on it's own because the pain isn't there any more.
99% of dogs we work with have some form of gait issue (how the dog walks) and those issue's being looked into and sorted or at least have a long term management plan can make all the difference in yours and your dogs life.

BAT - Behaviour Adjustment Training - Helping the Dog To Make Good Choices

Behavior Adjustment Training, or BAT, rehabilitates dog reactivity by setting up safe situations where your dog has a chance to learn about the dogs, people, etc. that trigger reactivity and helping her realize that she can meet her needs in other ways. For dog geeks, BAT is a dog-friendly application desensitization with a giant dose of controllability. Being able to safely explore and move around gives dogs a chance to learn to control their own comfort level through peaceful means. It’s very empowering to your dog, in a good way.
